RL Gnome and Tauren /Yell |
I really enjoy the chat interface that is given in WoW. There are of course different channels that you can be in and read what players are saying. Probably the most packed and trolled channel is trade chat, but of course there are the guild, raid, bg, zone defense, and other general channels. Two of the "channels" that I wanted to focus a little more about would be whispers and yells.
A yell functions much like a yell IRL. It pops up as red text and everyone around you gets to see it. On the other hand a chat whisper is a lot quieter...
You get a little ping noise and some purple text, and the communication is just between you and another player. Sometimes it is easy to miss these messages, especially when other chats are going a million miles a minute!
The whispers in WoW are a lot like the whisperings of the
Holy Ghost. In the book of
1st Kings 19: 11-12, Elijah is speaking with the Lord, and it says:
11. And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:
12. And after the earthquake a fire;
but the
Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a
still small voice.

listen to the still, small voice |
Sometimes there are many distractions that keep us from the things that matter most. Think of Elijah seeing all those things happen, and us watching chat spam and waiting for a whisper from a dear friend. If we do not pay attention, or we are distracted it is easy to miss that still small voice! And why you ask would we want to hear the whisperings of the spirit? The Holy Ghost testifies of all truth (
Moroni 10:5), guides us (
1 Nephi 4:6), he is also a comforter (
John 14:26-27), and he can warn us of danger (
2 Nephi 5:5). Sometimes missing a whisper in WoW can mean the difference between getting a raid spot, being warned of enemy players in the area, or otherwise important things. In the same way, one can see the importance of relying and listening to the promptings of the Holy Ghost!
