"Blizzcon" Convention |
Well, today is that day when Blizzcon tickets go on sale (or the day the world ends)! For those of you out there that don't know what Blizzcon is exactly, it is a convention (hence con) held every year by the gaming company Blizzard (hence Blizz). Elder Butler and I talked briefly about Blizzcon, and how cool it would be to actually go and attend one.
I think the draw of an event like
Blizzcon would the aspect of gathering. A whole bunch of people that love the same thing gathered together to celebrate, dress up funny, and see what's in store for the new year sounds spectacular!
Attendees also have the chance to be addressed by the developers and creators of the games that they love, and ask questions. Not to mention there are always competitions and prizes...

Mormon Church Building |
The aspect of gathering is very big in the
Mormon church as well. Every week we meet together for church and
sacrament meeting. Along the same lines of
Blizzcon, we have bi-annual
general conferences, were we are able to hear from the leaders of our church, modern day Prophets and Apostles. So you may ask "why is gathering so important to us?" There aren't any cool costumes (besides Sunday best!), prizes, or Q&A sessions with game developers at church. By gathering for general conference are able to learn and heed guidance for upcoming months. And by gathering for church each week, we are able to start off a fresh week, and learn (that means asking questions too) more about Christ and his gospel. When I think about gathering and the purpose of church, I liken it to a fire. A fire burns hotter when there are more logs on it, and similarly one log cannot do much or burn for long on its own. When we gather together it is like we are those logs coming together to help and strengthen one another!
